Lyrics of Saturday in the Park

Saturday in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
Saturday in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
People dancing, people laughing
A man selling ice cream
Singing Italian songs
(Fake Italian lyric)
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For Saturday

Samstag im park
I glaube es war der Fourth of July
Samstag im park
I glaube es war der Fourth of July
People dancing, Menschen lachen
A Mann EisverkäuferIn
Singing italienische Lieder
(Fake Italian lyric)
Kannst du dig it (yes kann I)
Und ich habe gewartet so lange
Für Samstag

Another day in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
Another day in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
People talking, really smiling
A man playing guitar
Singing for us all
Will you help him change the world
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For today

Weiterer Tag im Park
I glaube es war der Fourth of July
Weiterer Tag im Park
I glaube es war der Fourth of July
Menschen reden, wirklich smiling
A Mann playing guitar
Singing für uns alle
Will Sie ihm helfen die Welt verändern
Kannst du dig it (yes kann I)
Und ich habe gewartet so lange
Für heute

Slow motion riders fly the colors of the day
A bronze man still can tell stories his own way
Listen children all is not lost
All is not lost
Oh no, no

Zeitlupe Reitern fly die Farben des Tages
A bronze Mensch noch können erzählen Geschichten seinen eigenen Weg
Listen Kindern nicht alles verloren ist
All nicht verloren
Oh nein, nein

Funny days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July
Funny days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July
People reaching, people touching
A real celebration
Waiting for us all
If we want it, really want it
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For the day

Lustige Tage im Park
Jeder Tag die Fourth of July
Lustige Tage im Park
Jeder Tag die Fourth of July
Menschen Erreichen, Menschen berühren
A wirkliche Feier
Waiting für uns alle
Wenn wir es wollen, wirklich wollen
Kannst du dig it (yes kann I)
Und ich habe gewartet so lange
Denn der Tag

'Saturday in the Park' is a song written by Robert Lamm and recorded by the group Chicago for their 1972 album 'Chicago V', with Lamm on piano and lead vocals and Peter Cetera on bass and backing vocals. The single version hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the band's highest-charting single to date and helping lift the album to #1 on the charts. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA. According to fellow Chicago member Walter Parazaider, Lamm was inspired to write the song during the recording of 'V' in New York City on July 4, 1971: :'Robert came back to the hotel from Central Park very excited after seeing the steel drum players, singers, dancers, and jugglers. I said, 'Man, it's time to put music to this!' The line 'singing Italian songs' is followed by Italian-sounding nonsense words, rendered in the printed lyrics as '?'. Piano/guitar/vocal sheet music arrangements have often read 'improvised Italian lyrics' in parentheses after this line.

'Saturday in the Park' has also been used in a popular commercial in Japan, advertising a marketing campaign known as 'Parkhouse' The song is played at Wrigley Field during Chicago Cubs home games on Saturday afternoons, and at Yankee Stadium before New York Yankees home games.
